Biography
Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas was born on December 31, 1995, in Newport News, Virginia, USA. She is the daughter of Natalie Hawkins Douglas and Timothy Douglas. She has three older siblings. Gabby started with her gymnastics classes when she was six years old, in 2002. In 2004, she won the Level 4 all-around gymnastics title, her first big win. At 14, when her coach Liang Chow, she moved out of her house for her career because the rest of the family could not afford to do the same.
Her professional career began in 2008 when she debuted in the US Classic, where she came in 10th all-around. That same year, she could not join the junior women’s national team, and she failed to participate in the Cover Girl US Classic in 2009, as well as the Visa Championship, because of injuries.
The year 2010 was much kinder to her because she finished fourth all-around in Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. She won the silver medal in the Junior National Championships and her first gold in the Pan American Championships.
Her senior career started in Italy in 2011, where she won gold with her team at the City of Jesolo Trophy. Then came the silver medal at the Cover Girl Classic, and a shared gold at the World Championships in Japan, all in 2011.
